Carnton Plantation

1 This wedding makes us smile!  We just can’t get over how lovely everything came together and how well Jamie Clayton captured the charm of this June day at Carnton Plantation.  You may have come across the images of Chaz & Caroline’s wedding  in Southern Weddings Magazine Volume 5 and featured in two parts on their blog:  Part 1 & Part 2.  After keeping this sunshine and happiness under wraps until its publication, we finally get to share a few more details with you right here.  Not only did the Whimsical Gatherings team get to create some sweet florals for this event, but details were added by Mr. & Mrs. Wedding and Events and created by the bride herself.  We will let the photos speak for themselves and we hope they also bring a smile to your face!  If you like what you see and want to view more, click on a photo below.

The Show

Leah McCall, Owner and Creative Director of Whimsical Gatherings, is also a fashion design instructor at Tellico Plains High School.  Its Leah’s passion to create and inspire others, yet her students amaze and inspire her each and every day.  Beyond researching designers and developing portfolios, this year’s group of students were especially motivated to create fashion from recycled and redesigned household items.  But that wasn’t all!  They planned to present their creations to the public by means of a runway display called The Show.  Their desire to construct jaw-dropping runway apparel consumed them and their excitement escalated leading up to the event.  There was an energy in the group that Leah had not felt for years.  Their immense creativity turned ordinary lesson plans into something truly magical.  The students got involved in every aspect from collecting materials to modeling their own creations.

Ideas began to run wild in class after a simple conversation about how wasteful society had become and then brainstorming on ideas to bring about awareness through fashion.   Turning trash into treasure was their goal.  The thought that eye-catching couture could only be made from costly fabrics and premium sewing notions was completely rejected.  The supplies needed were right before them.  The first task was to save all of the plastic eating utensils after cafeteria lunch!  With these simple treasures, the first dress was made and as the weeks continued to unfold, the student designers produced garments of paper, magazines, cotton balls, cardboard, garbage bags, tin cans, book papers, and other unusual but common elements.  Anything the students could get their hands on for free, they turned into a garment.  After being submerged into production for weeks, they finished their goal of 40 garments.  At that point it became very clear that the students’ work must be showcased and The Show was born.

Coco Chanel once said, “In order to be irreplaceable one must be different.” and according to Leah, “This class was, without a doubt, irreplaceable.”  The night of The Show, the school was filled with color, light, and a lively crowd.  The process not only transformed simple elements into garments, but also transformed individuals.  A special guest, alumni Colby West, joined the fun by presenting a beautiful design.  Leah and her daughter Madeline also closed out The Show dressed in dramatic handmade dresses.

We are proud to share a few photos from The Show with you today.  If you are inspired by these talented young designers, please leave a comment telling them so!  You can also view more from this event by clicking on the photos below.

A special thanks to those who donated their time and talents to this memorable evening.

The House of WG

A drive into work for the Whimsical Gatherings team means heading towards a unique destination tucked away in the outskirts of Maryville, TN.  We don’t fight for parking or take elevators to get to our office.  In fact, we don’t have offices.  We have room to roam outdoors and a private design space that sits in the center of an 80 acre farm alongside a rolling creek.  When you come through our gate, you may be greeted by a herd of cattle or grumbling turkeys.  You may stop and think you’ve made a wrong turn, but you will be delighted by everything the House of WG soon has to offer.  The rocks crawl in moss from spring rain and prickly thistle sprout in the summer sun.  It is forever changing at the House of WG and forever inspiring us to renew ourselves and our artistic direction.

We consider it a blessing to have a private area to work in and a serene landscape to work around.  We don’t have phones that ring at the studio and our cell phones only get reception at work half of the time.  This lack of typical workplace distraction keeps us lost in our craft.  Week to week we have buckets and coolers to clean, flowers to unpack and arrange, inventory to organize, floors to sweep, and meetings with clients.  We also take time to open doors to let in the wind, plug our ipods in to listen to our favorite music, and it is not uncommon for us to chop down branches, pull thistle, or utilize vines and wild flowers from the property in our designs.

There are times when work has us moving in different directions but the rise of spring reminds us to pool our energies together to prepare for weddings and summer gatherings.  We will be busy over the next couple of months and it will be hard to track us down.  Jude may be working on marketing materials or delivering floral arrangements while Colby is picking up flower shipments or gathering branches from the woods.  Leah may be teaching fashion design students or placing product orders while Carrie meets with clients or conducts site visits.  We look forward to working with so many great people this year, traveling and designing at different locations, and sharing our work with others.  Amazing projects and plans are underway at the House of WG and we hope to bring inspiration to others in ways that so many things have inspired us.Whimsical GatheringsWhimsical GatheringsWhimsical GatheringsWhimsical GatheringsWG farm Collage New Filter For additional views of our workspace, you can click through some of our previously posted albums.  Just as the seasons change and inspiration around our studio evolves, our front room changes with the paths that creativity leads us to.  You will see different versions of the House of WG through these links and since our studio is like a second home, there are some shoots that are especially close to our hearts.

A Southern Depot Wedding

Photo by AK Vogel, flowers by Whimsical Gatherings

Whimsical Gatherings was delighted to start 2013 with this beautiful wedding at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and The Southern Depot in downtown Knoxville.  The bride and her family were a joy to work with and this January day turned out to be filled with sunshine and temperatures nearing 70 degrees.  We enjoyed creating the flowers and decor for this wedding and had a ball working with Table Five Linens, All Occasions Party Rentals, Magpies Bakery, Erin Wilson (baker), and Katie from Pearls and TwirlsA.K. Vogel captured the special moments of this day, and we are excited to bring you a peek at our work.  As always, you can click on the photos below to be taken to the full album from this event on our Facebook page.

December at Knoxville Museum of Art

Photo by Dixie Pixel, Design by Whimsical Gatherings

What a way to end 2012!  The Whimsical Gatherings team really enjoyed being a part of this romantic wintry wedding.  Bettina (the bride) gives her all to so many events each year through her businesses;  Restoration Rentals, Luxe Catering, and The Sweetery.  This was her turn to soak in the love and loveliness on her own wedding day!  The Knoxville Museum of Art never looked better and these photos by Dixie Pixel are simply stunning.  You can view more from this glittery wedding on Dixie Pixel’s blog and additional details featured on Ruffled!

Behind the Scenes

Wow, 2013 is going to be an amazing year!  We’ve been busy working with 2013 brides to fine tune their decor plans, designing for corporate events, and gathering professional photos to share with you from 2012.  Our team has literally been working around the clock to make this one of best years yet for Whimsical Gatherings!

To make room for whats to come, we’ve updated our Behind the Scenes 2012 album on our Facebook page and started one for 2013.  We don’t always stop to capture our own work, but these are fun if you’d like to see whats been in our cooler, how we package our personal flowers, get a glimpse at some events that aren’t photographed by professionals, and sometimes even see members of our team in action!  We update these albums every couple of months so keep an eye out for future additions!

Public Market

Photo by John Black, Design by Whimsical Gatherings

The Whimsical Gatherings team is flashing back again!  This time, we’re sharing photos from 2011 when we had a uniquely designed booth at a public market.  With all of the holiday shopping underway, we thought of this time and the photos by John Black Photography were simply too sweet not to share!  Many of the items we sold were from our large inventory of event decor; mercury glass vases, frames, candles, and ribbons.

Will we ever have a market or retail presence again?  We never say “never again”!  To view more from our booth, click on the photos below!

Holiday Dinner Tables

When we were asked to assist RT Lodge with a fall/winter photo shoot, we were thrilled at the chance to work with Alexandra Hansen, The Happy Envelope, and Waldorf Photographic Art!  The Whimsical Gatherings team grabbed some props, greenery, scarves, trophies, flowers, moss, and branches to create some festive tablescapes. We’ve been hanging onto these photos for awhile and thought this would be the perfect time to share.  To see more from this shoot, click on the photos below or check out Waldorf’s post for more details.

Behind The Scenes

It’s been awhile since we’ve shared some of our amateur iphone behind the scenes photos with you!  The Whimsical Gatherings team has been busy the past few months with weddings at some amazing venues; Smithview Pavilion, Knoxville Botanical Gardens and Arboretum, Butterfly Gap Retreat, Holston Hills Country Club, a newly renovated warehouse in Downtown Knoxville, and a lodge in Gatlinburg.  We’ve also worked hard to create a Chanel inspired 8th birthday party for one lucky girl,  a modern Halloween party for a super fun client, and a fabulous Gala at the Knoxville Convention Center.  There’s more to come soon!  We have weddings and events all throughout the fall and winter months so stay tuned.  In the meantime, we hope you enjoy this peek into what we’ve been working on.  To see more, click on the photos below to be taken to the complete album.

The Reserve at Bluebird Hill

The Whimsical Gatherings team was so excited to finally design a wedding at The Reserve at Bluebird Hill this past July!  This property has gorgeous landscaping and amazing places to add decor; an outdoor ceremony pergola, an outdoor seating area with a fireplace, and a super cute dressing area for the bride.  We can’t wait to return to this venue next year for one of our 2013 brides and get the chance to work with Jan & Lauren again!  We hope you enjoy the photos captured by Jennie Andrews Photography.  This couple was a ton of fun and not the first time we’ve worked with this family as the bride’s sister was a 2011 Whimsical Gatherings client!  To see more from this special day, check out Jennie’s full blog post or click on a photo below to be taken to our Facebook album.

Butterfly Gap Retreat in September

September was Whimsical Gatherings’ busiest month this year!  We had so much fun creating beautiful, bright, bold, and unique decor for several events and celebrations.  This wedding at Butterfly Gap Retreat was one of our favorites featuring a mix of East TN and India influences.  The day turned out beautiful for the outdoor ceremony on Butterfly Gap Retreat’s lakeside peninsula and the indoor/outdoor reception in their studio.  The setting complemented the rustic and modern decor incorporating iris, coxcomb, pincushion protea, calla lily, safflower, pomegranates, craspedia, and bittersweet vine.  To view more photos from this event captured by Sullivan Photography, simply click on a photo below to be taken to our full Facebook album.

The Foundry – On The Fair Site

The Whimsical Gatherings team had a wonderful time working with this couple and their families on a warm wedding weekend in August!  Caroline Fontenot captured the beautiful ceremony held at Church Street United Methodist followed by a lively reception at The Foundry in downtown Knoxville, TN.  The decor had a vintage feel with bright summery colors and hints of burlap and lace.  You don’t want to miss the sweet icing details created by Heather from Cake of Knoxville too!  To view more floral photos from this event, simply click on the photos below and visit Caroline Fontenot’s blog for even more wedding fun!

Butterfly Gap in July

The Whimsical Gatherings team did it again with this lovely wedding!  Just wait until you see all of the details that the bride helped us create at Butterfly Gap Retreat in July.  She provided the adorable boutonnieres for the men and we created the beautiful vintage-inspired bouquets.  She provided some of the vintage props and signs and we added our touch with vintage books, mismatched bottles with flowers, apothecary terrariums, and tall book page branches on the tables.  To compliment Butterfly Gap’s gorgeous indoor ceremony Pavilion, we used just a hint of baby’s breath to tie in the vintage feel.  And don’t miss the cakes by Rosa’s Catering!  We added just a touch of color to one of her super sweet creations.  If you want to see more, simply click on the photos to be taken to the full Facebook album.

RT Lodge in May

We really enjoy weddings at RT Lodge!  The staff is always wonderful to work with and the property offers some amazing backdrops for beautiful events and memorable photos.  Luckily on this wedding day in May, the threat of rain passed and the couple was able to enjoy their outdoor ceremony and tented reception.  Their black & white color scheme was highlighted with hints of purple flowers and gorgeous lighting provided by Ogle Entertainment and Ambiance Light Design.  Our Whimsical Gatherings team created the corsages, boutonnieres, arbor ceremony backdrop, and reception centerpieces.  As always, if you would like to see more from this event, simply click on a photo to be taken to the full Facebook album!

Blackberry Farm in May

The Whimsical Gatherings team has a sweet treat for you today!  You may have stumbled upon a few of these photos on Style Me Pretty a few weeks ago but today we have a few unseen details of our work from one of our lovely May weddings.  These were taken by the super talented Tec Petaja at Blackberry Farm on a gorgeous summer Saturday.  We were thrilled to have the opportunity to create some amazing details for this wedding including bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, centerpieces, an arbor, a ribbon aisle garland, and even a lace-covered tree!  The bride wore a to-die-for Oscar de la Renta gown, The Modern Hostess created a rustic place card display, and Magpies Bakery created a sweet and classic cake.  If you love what you see here, click on the photos for more!

The Whimsical Gatherings Studio Part 2

We’re updating the Whimsical Gatherings studio once again!  Yes, we seem to go through changes a couple of times each year.  Our team likes to play with ideas and have fun with our front room where we meet with clients and sometimes host small events and classes.  We shared a previous studio design a few months ago that was inspired by the colors of a world map.  The design we share with you today is a clean and crisp summer design featuring white paper flowers and branches handmade and assembled by our team and a group of Tellico Plains High School students.  We have enjoyed walking into work each day with this to greet us for the past few months but we are working on a special project, so things are moving around once again.  Stay tuned for photos of our new look soon!

A Holiday Home Part 4

It’s the last day of July, so today we bring you Part 4 (the last Part) of our “Christmas in July” inspirational posts!  Hopefully you’ve already seen Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3, all of which differ in style and color.  Today’s design is a bit nontraditional.  It’s a way to incorporate a few details in to your existing space utilizing colors you may enjoy but may not acquaint with the holiday.  Who says you have to decorate in red & green each year?  Break the rules!  The photos below demonstrate our love of bold bright colors and the use of special elements in separate vignettes.  This provides a welcoming atmosphere for your guests and draws them to different areas of your home.  This not only helps to spread the company, but also spreads the fun and adds a few signature conversation pieces to your party!  See if you can spot the lace-covered lampshades, the glitter-covered craspedia cocktail stirrers, the moss-filled frame, the feather “tree”, and the fabric and ribbon wrapped gift canisters!  Consider these DIY ideas in your holiday planning or put your own twist on something fun and festive!  Enjoy…and Merry Christmas in July to you from the Whimsical Gatherings design team!

Did you enjoy our “Christmas in July” special?  Leave us a note to let us know if you are head over heels or completely abhorrent to the idea of holiday planning this far off.  And what do you think of these detailed photos?  We are so thankful for Amanda from John Black Photography.  This whole particular shoot came about over a glass of wine one night after working a wedding together.  She was just as excited to work on a “Christmas in July” shoot with us as we were with her!  She was so generous to venture out with her camera on a very rainy July day to make this come to life with our team.  Amanda and John are the dynamic duo of wedding, portrait, and commercial photography.  Their studio is located in the beautifully renovated Daylight Building in downtown Knoxville.  They rent out their studio for parties, rehearsal dinners, and small concerts.  Its a gorgeous open space surrounded by windows and tall ceilings.  If you need a modern loft-like space to hold your get-together, give Amanda a call…and contact our team to help you decorate!

A Holiday Home Part 3

Part 1 and Part 2 of our “Christmas in July” inspirational special focused more on larger living room and dining room spaces using traditional design elements.  Today, Part 3 shows a fun DIY design that you can utilize in a small space.  Using extra ornaments or elements from other decorated areas, you can quickly toss together a bit of color and fun in your entry way, laundry room, or even the bathroom as seen here.  With this design, we used leftover wrapping paper and fashioned them into paper flowers.  We took extra tissue paper to make pom poms, covered books with bright yellow paper, and converted old paint chips into hanging ornaments.  Stay tuned because Part 4 will be coming your way tomorrow!

A Holiday Home Part 2

Today we bring you Part 2 of our “Christmas in July” inspirational special.  Part 1 featured illuminating teal, gold, and silver decor but today is a rich traditional red home design!  If you’ve been to your local craft or hobby store, you’ve seen that the holiday aisles are already stocked.  Before you choose how you want to decorate this year, take a look at what we have done here (and in our other posts) to see if there is something you particularly like.  If you don’t enjoy doing this yourself, our team can work with you to create an amazing holiday look in your home using what you have on hand and incorporating some new elements.  We can also custom create fresh floral designs for your holiday soiree or company party.  Stay tuned for Part 3 of our “Christmas in July” posts coming on Tuesday!

A Holiday Home Part 1

Believe it or not, we’ve been working on a few holiday projects this summer.  Our Whimsical Gatherings studio and creative minds have been wrapped around festive and fun decor ideas for both Halloween and Christmas.  Knee deep in glitter, we are!  Seems we are always operating a few months ahead of time with wedding ideas and planning events.  We’ve set up a few different holiday styled shoots and one of the photos from this particular set was recently featured on HGTV.com’s “Christmas in July” feature.  Because of this, we thought we would share a few more photos from this shoot to get you in the holiday mood.  You can’t deny the beautiful illumination and details in some of these photos but if you need help capturing the holiday spirit in your home or business, get in touch!  We can work with what you have and incorporate some new items to liven up your space.  To view more, simply click on the photos below…and have a Merry Christmas in July!

Midori Ribbon Feature

Our Whimsical Gatherings team was thrilled to be included in the launch of Midori Ribbon’s new bridal blog!  We love using their product and their website is a fabulous source for design inspiration.  The new Midori Bridal Blog features a past wedding of ours held at Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tn.  We fashioned Dupioni silk ribbon to tall branches flowing from a flower-filled antique urn.  If you follow our work, you know that we enjoy using ribbon and other embellishments in our designs.  We’ve wrapped many items with ribbon; vases, jars, bouquets, frames, barn wood boxes, and just about anything needing an extra special touch.  The photos by Moss & Isaac from this event are simply stunning!  We wanted to share a few more from this special day with you today!  See if you can spot the sweet ribbon detail in a few of the photos below.

Rustic Funk

On a whim, our team submitted two photographs to a tablescape design contest held by one of our floral suppliers a few weeks ago.  To our amazement, we won the “People’s Choice” and “Honorable Mention” prizes.  We’ve shared the “People’s Choice” winner in a previous blog post and on our Facebook page but today we have a new set of design photos to share, the first (above) being the “Honorable Mention” winner!   We hope you enjoy these pink and green arrangements utilizing apples, moss, grass, Maria Theresa garden roses, Kiki roses, and spider mums.  The mix of vintage milk glass vases, tall crackle vases, ric rac, candles, and chicken wire-covered cylinder vases help to complete the fun & fresh designs as well!

The Whimsical Gatherings Studio

If you’ve been out to our studio to meet with our team, you’ve come across one of many front room designs that we’ve put together to greet you.  In the past 6 months, we’ve changed this room at least 3 times.  What can we say?  We like change.  We like to play with new ideas.  We enjoy creating a fresh atmosphere to welcome guests to our workplace.

When we meet with our clients here, we ask a lot of questions.  Sometimes the smallest thing will inspire a new design;  a ruffle or pleat on a dress, a colored tie, a tiered cake design, a bow on a shoe, a family heirloom, a piece of jewelry, an embellishment on an invitation or party favor, etc.  Each week we are finalizing current event plans while also dreaming up ideas for events 6-18 months ahead of time.  Often times, in creating a design proposal for a future event, we find inspiration for something we are currently working on…or, a reason (excuse) to change around our front room again!  So, as you can imagine -  things are always evolving at the House of WG!

Below are a few more photos of our front room.  This particular design was inspired by the teal blue and pastel shades of a world map.  What you won’t see are photos of the cattle that may greet you when you enter our rustic studio property nestled on a private farm in Maryville, TN.  You won’t see our back room where we process flowers, load up event hardware, and work on designs.  And you won’t see our two large inventory supply rooms where we house our containers, props, fabrics, frames, branches, ribbons, furniture, candles, and so much more.  You’ll just have to pay us a visit to see what goes on behind the doors of our beautiful front meeting room.  And guess what…our front room doesn’t look like this anymore!

http://whimsicalgatherings.wordpress.com/2012/05/18/behind-the-scenes-part-1/

Today we bring you some behind-the-scenes photos of what was truly a labor of love for the Whimsical Gatherings team last weekend!  We beat the heat to pull off a beautiful outdoor ceremony and barn reception at Blackberry Farm in Walland, TN.  This amazing venue is always welcoming and willing to go above and beyond for their guests, visiting vendors, and brides!  It is no surprise that Blackberry Farm was recently named the #1 Resort for Service in North America By Travel + Leisure readers.

As mentioned in Part 1, these are amateur iphone photos snapped by our team.  We are saving a few surprises for you however, so not everything from this event is sneak peeked below!  Tec Petaja, an amazingly talented photographer based in Nashville, will have the full feature to share soon enough!  Our team was humbled to be working in his company and if you want to stalk his blog (like we do) for this wedding to be posted, visit his website:

Behind the Scenes Part 1

The month of May is always a busy one for the Whimsical Gatherings team.  This year has been no exception.  Today we’re doing something a bit different on the blog!  We wanted to share some behind the scenes photos with you of what we were working on last weekend (and by “behind the scenes”, we really mean amateur personal iphone photos!)

We had two weddings; one at RT Lodge in Maryville and one at Dancing Bear Lodge in Townsend.  We also had the pleasure of creating designs for the Knoxville Leadership Mayor’s Luncheon at the Knoxville Convention Center.  Each event was a bit different.  The Mayor’s Luncheon featured garden-like designs in urns, barnwood boxes, and hurricane vases with an entrance display of the newly-released HGTV brand garden containers being sold at Stanley’s Greenhouses.  The Dancing Bear wedding was a delicate design of airy white & yellow flowers in vintage bottles and decanters.  The RT Lodge wedding was modern and flirty with black & white sleek designs incorporating feathers,  mirrors, and a beautiful arbor.  It’s a lot of fun for our team to be working on such different concepts within days of each other!  We hope you enjoy the peek into a Whimsical Gatherings weekend!

South Asian Bride Inspirations

Our team was thrilled when Tara from Dixie Pixel Photography told us that a design image from one of our biggest 2011 events would be published in South Asian Bride Wedding Inspirations 2012.  The images included in this amazing inspirational book are simply stunning and we are honored to be included.  The image selected was one of a tree we placed in the middle of the reception adorned with bold orchids and hanging glass candle baubles.  This sat inside a modern mirror box wrapped with ribbon and a crystal buckle.  A lush floral arrangement with mercury glass balls filled the base as well.  The dramatic colors of the linens and flowers stood out and made this event truly unforgettable.  To order a copy of this publication, click on the cover photo above.  To view a preview, click on the page below.  And to see more of our design details incorporated in this event, keep scrolling & enjoy!

Bridesmaids Bouquets by Whimsical Gatherings

We’ve recently featured a sampling of our bridal bouquets and boutonnieres here on the blog.  Today we want to highlight a few of our bridesmaids designs.  Often these coordinate with the bridal bouquet (as seen above) and sometimes they show off a completely different color palette and texture.  Whichever direction you wish to go, we can design a unique one-of-a-kind bouquet to make your bridesmaids feel special on your big day too!  To see the coordinating floral items from each event below, click on the photo to link back to the full album.

Boutonnieres by Whimsical Gatherings

Today’s post is all about the men!  The boutonniere is often the smallest item we produce for a wedding yet it can make a statement all on its own.  We realize not all men enjoy dressing up.  Some men have strong opinions about what they adorn their suit jackets with, while others have no preference.  We’re giving you a few of our past boutonniere  designs to consider today.  Some traditional.  Some a little out of the box.  Whether you are planning your wedding with your fiance or not, you may want to get his perspective on this one small detail.  Just like with our bouquet designs, we make each boutonniere a little different by using fresh flowers, greenery, and various wraps to add texture and detail.  To see the coordinating floral items from each event below, click on the photo to link back to the full album.  And if you missed our bouquet sample post earlier this week, keep scrolling!

Bouquets by Whimsical Gatherings

The bridal bouquet is the most important piece we create for a wedding.  Though it may not be the largest or most time consuming item our team collaborates on, it is given the most care.  The bridal bouquet must be perfect.  It must exceed the bride’s dreams.  It must make her feel special, beautiful, and unique.  Though desired themes, seasons, venues, flower choices, and colors may be similar among brides, each is still a bit different.  Our team aims to give each bouquet a personal feel and signature design by utilizing fresh flown-in flowers, adding texture and depth in design, coordinating floral hues, and fashioning various stem wraps.  We aim to set the bar for quality and create unforgettable swoon-worthy events by tying in bridesmaids bouquets, boutonnieres, table designs, focal pieces, and more!  Below is a sample of our work.  We are extremely grateful for our brides and enjoy seeing the look on their faces when they see their bouquet for the first time.  Our team thrives on the challenge to create something new each week!  To see more from each event below, click on the photo to link back to the design album.

Ombré Designs by Dior

Christian Dior’s Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2012 Collection is unbelievable!  We love the color tone graduation from light to dark in these short and long dramatic gowns.  We’ve seen this ombré trend in everything lately from home décor to women’s accessories.  Our team is especially inspired by Dior’s combination of old Hollywood style with the ombré fashion trend in these contemporary black and white designs.  To view more, simply click on the photos below.

Blue Garden Wedding Album Teaser

This Friendsville, TN wedding was designed around sweet blue hues and clean whites.  Our Whimsical Gatherings team enjoyed preparing the outdoor reception for the beautiful couple on a private horse farm.   The bridal bouquet included freesia, poppy pods, hydrangea, fern curls, and delphinium.  We also designed coordinating flower arrangements for the tables and added detail with natural raffia ribbon to the ceremony program table, cocktail table jars, and aisle chairs.  Our team lifted tall flower arrangements up on white columns by the food stations too.  You don’t want to miss this album.  Simply click on the photos to view more!

The flower girls held delphinium petals inside bird nest baskets.

The whites & blues paired beautifully with the deep eggplant dresses.

A rustic program table was detailed with natural raffia ribbon.

A simple but sweet aisle chair treatment also used natural raffia ribbon.

These lifted arrangements were perfect for the outdoor tented reception!

Flowers in Fashion: Oscar de la Renta

We are thrilled that floral designs have made a comeback in fashion!  Oscar de la Renta’s Spring 2012 collection includes some of our favorite examples of this.   The designs are fresh, fun, and undeniably fabulous!  Our team dreams to book an unconventional bride who wishes to pull off one of the ball gowns in this collection!  Can you imagine creating tablescapes to mimic a bridal gown’s floral design?!?! *swoon*  To see more of what inspires us, simply click on the photos below.

Yellow daffodil silk skirt topped with a ruffled lace deep plunge design.  A vintage yellow garden theme comes to mind with this one!

This stem-like silk twill design has beautiful lines and tailoring. Together with tulips would be amazing!

This cotton cobalt sheath would work as a bridesmaid dress.  Plus, what an amazing opportunity to pair white flowers in cobalt vessels!

Another classic sheath option for bridesmaids, this time with poppy.  This speaks to a playful & whimsy gal (or event)!

This white hand cut embroidered cotton reminds us of our white paper floral designs!  Ohhh, the black & white ideas that come to mind with this one get us excited!

Bridal Guide Magazine “Southern Comfort” Feature

One of our May 2011 weddings at Maple Grove Inn was recently featured in the May/June 2012 Bridal Guide Magazine (already on shelves).  We couldn’t be more thrilled to see this event published!  This Southern style vintage wedding had a lot of detail, unique flower arrangements, great use of props, and special touches at every turn.  We are proud of what our team created for Katie & Ashley’s special day.  Some of our favorite vendors were on board too; White Orchid Bridal, All Occassions Party Rentals, Ogle Entertainment & Ambiance Light Design, Milestone Motion Pictures, Magpies Bakery, and Fourth Year Studio.  All of our combined hard work was captured in some amazing (as always) photos by Tara of Dixie Pixel Photo.

Today we share the photos that were featured in the magazine along with a few that maybe you have not seen.  The full design album from this event can be viewed on our Facebook page by clicking on the photos below.

The bridesmaids bouquets included peach, pink, and ivory roses, tuberose and parrot tulips.

The boutonnieres featured spray garden roses and Dusty Miller.

The bridal bouquet was a lush group of pink peonies.

The altar area included our barn wood pedestals covered with a lace overlay and bow.  The barn wood frame highlighted a lace and ribbon design.

The table designs were all a bit different.  This one featured blue thistle & Queen Anne’s Lace.

This design included some old spice jars used as vases underneath a glass bell jar.

This barn wood box held a flower filled apothecary jar atop a bed of wheat grass.  A cotton flower adorned the front.

We also used wheat grass to line this brick wall with candle filled aqua Mason jars.

Here we added a basket with vintage books and a simple peony & thistle in a glass bottle.

An old glass window frame; we can find ways to incorporate just about anything!

We love to use vintage luggage cases too!

We also love to hang things!  Here we framed a grouping of flower filled glass bottles strung from a tree.

Paper Dress Designs Album Teaser

To know Colby West, our Head Designer, is to love him…and his designs.  He is beyond resourceful and has an unrivaled talent to create amazing designs with whatever is laying before him (not just flowers!)  Take these cardboard packaging materials, fruit netting, and book pages for example.  When these were created, we had no idea what a trend paper would become.  Somehow Colby knew though, and we thank him!  We are proud to have such a talented, forward thinking designer on our team!  If you have been to our studio, you have seen these on display for the past few years.  Colby hasn’t stopped.  He is always creating something new.  We hope to share much more of his incredible work with you again soon!  You won’t want to miss this album.  Click the photos to see more!

Kumquats and succulent plants are great products to utilize when you want to add a bit of earthy rustic color and texture into floral arrangements.   We had fun playing with these options in our studio this week for one of our September brides.  We also had a flashback to one of our previous events at The Orangery in Knoxville, TN.  These designs are a bit different but still both beautiful and dramatic options for your event or home tablescape.  To see all of the photos from these two albums of our designs, simply click on the photos!

This design includes garden roses, scabiosa pods, rosemary, olive branch, and kumquats.

This design is fashioned in a mercury glass vase.  Our inventory includes a few different styles of mercury glass vases along with larger mercury glass vessels, votives, and bottles.

This arrangement rests in an antique white urn.  We have several different colors & sizes of urns too!  Our private studio houses many options to incorporate into your design; containers, brooches, crystals, props, furnishings, votives, fabrics, ribbons, and more. Our vase options alone include Mason jars, jelly jars, milk glass, beaded, vintage, crystal, mercury glass, mirrored, metal, crackled, wooden, and more. Big and small, tall and short, old and new, colored and clear, round and square…we have it all!

Spring With Alexander McQueen

Have you seen Alexander McQueen’s Spring-Summer 2012 designs? The entire collection is full of beautiful golds, ruffled peachy pinks, silvery blue hues, and some dramatic black designs.  From the lace up heels to the lace overlaid faces, the collection shows off the figure with extreme feminism and high fashion!  (Don’t you love the high-waist styles too?!?)

Our team appreciates Sarah Burton’s attention to every detail.  From her vision as Creative Direction for Alexander McQueen, we draw amazing inspiration to create stunning presentations, different for each and every event!

As we flip through the McQueen collection, we can’t help but think of one of our past weddings.  We’ve gathered a few photos that link to the complete album from this event.   We hope you enjoy the comparison of our designs and how we think they relate to the fashion designs in the McQueen photo above!

This design features a gold container with pale peach and cream roses.  Chinaberries and branches give it a special touch.

These sweet pomander balls speak to ruffles and whimsy!  You can hang these from aisle chairs, carry as an alternative to a bouquet, or even hang them in clusters as a chandelier!

This beautiful bridal bouquet has lush roses surrounded by berries and a light accent of feathers, crystals, and callas.
